Weekly Diary
Day 1
Doing lots of pattern cutting, then i was sent to Angel to pick up some wool for the collection. They then asked me to go to Edgeware to collect some samples of fabrics. When i got back i was quite tired, i did some more pattern cutting but then they asked me to go to Dalston. When i got there my phone was on really low battery. It was about 5:30 and they wanted me to get to shepards bush. I said i wasnt able to do that because of my battery. I got back to the studio around 6 and they still wanted me to go out and get stuff. I said i needed to get back because of my phone battery. They other intern also left so i didnt think it was fair and didnt want to be taken advantage of.
Day 2
I was staight away sent to go to Dalson again to pick up stuff. It was a big bag of wadding and some heavy habidashery. I then had to get the tube into Soho to pick ip more stuff. Luckily they didnt have it so i started making my way back. As i got to canary wharf they said i need to go back because they want samples. I explained that i was nearly back and that the stuff i was carrying was heavy. They luckily sent another intern to get the other stuff. She ended up coming back with a big bag of netting. Not sure hoe they expected me bto be able to carry all of that. The rest of the day i was cutting out fabric for the collection
Day 3
I went in later as i had a tutorial in the morning. In the afternoon i went in and was pattern cutting. At this point there was about 7 interns in and only 4 scissors. At 4pm they asked if i could take a trip to Seven oaks. I said i would if i would definitely be bakc by 6pm as thats when all the other interns leave. Luckily i got beck 5:50 but it was 2 hours of sitting on a train just to pick up a box
Day 4
In the morning i was sent to argos to pick up some lamps. I dont really minr it as it breaks up the day to go out. The rest of the day i spent patter cutting. Most of the interns left after mid day. So there was only 2 of us left. It got quite intense as we were having to cut for all the seamstresses to sew as they were waiting.
Day 5
Most morning i was cutting out patterns and fabric. I then got sent to peckham to get some swatches. They asked me to also pick up a envelope but nowhere in peckham had one so i had to go to camberwell. It definitely would be essier for them if they ordered stuff online in advance. Especially with fabrics as lots of the shops didnt have enough
Day 6.
Was sent staight to peckham to pick up 100 yards of chiffon. Was very heavy and had to take in on the bus home. The rest of the day i was cutting out the fabric. We have to go them properly now as we are cutting the official garments. I ended up finishing at 6:40. My bus was in 3 minutes and as i was going out the door they wanted me
Final week.
For the final week we were cutting out tge final pattern pieces for the dresses. Most days i would stay until 8pm. It was very tiring, but it was great to see all the pieces come together.
Final show.
On the final show day i arrived at studio at 9. We stitched the flowers onto the garment which was very last minute. Then we got an uber ti the venue. I spent an hour hemming a dress by hand and then i had to help dress the models. Some were wearing latex so i was rubbing lots of talc on the girls. The show was 30 mins late but me and another intern managed to sneak off and find a little photography nook. The photographer that was there let us sit with him and we got front row seats to the show. After i took a look around the venue and then i had to go home as i had work in the morning.
Over all as an intern i didnt feel very appreciated and not once was i thanked for the hours that i put in. I often felt like i burden to them and was just someone they could make do what they want. If i hadnt had such a good view for the show i think i wouldnt have thought it was worth. However the show was beautiful and i got lucky. I would like to intern at fashion week again as i met some amazing people however i would never intern for Richard Quinn again.
